Super moon of Serenity

August 2023 can best be remembered as a month of super moon & Blue moon, well other than the joy of me getting a new SUV… Suzuki Breeza!

Last night as I strolled out into the open to catch the evening sea breeze gently rolling in from the shores around us, my eyes opened wide looking at this beautiful spectacle in the night sky. The super moon! It shown warm like a ripe orange with misty waves floating around it. The picture will not do justice to what I experienced in that moment. It was as though it shown almost like a beautiful yet much softer Sun!

Apparently the moon was born in violence. About 4.5 billion years ago, a small, Mars-sized planet collided with the infant Earth, sending up a cloud of debris from both worlds that eventually coalesced into the moon. The explosive energy of this collision couldn’t form a steady circle of course… so the moon is still very much around earth but only revolving around it in an elliptical orbit ! Sometimes so near and yet so far…

With ISRO’s Chandrayaan mission and the recently successful 3rd one, the terms Perigee & Apogee have become so familiar. Perigee being the nearest point in the orbit of the moon to the earth while Apogee being the point at which it is farthest from the Earth.

Yesterday was that special perigee moment when the moon shown brightest & biggest than any other celestial jewel …

The first super moon occurred on the 1st of august and then in the same month again yesterday, on the 31st came another super moon… making it a Blue Moon!

My thoughts on watching this celestial wonder were those of beauty & serenity. The darkness of the night seemed to be lifting away just by the sheer presence of this blue moon. No idea about the science behind it all, to me it spoke of the wonders of life.

Whenever there’s darkness or desolation, there will surely be a beacon of hope to guide you through it all. Just keep the hope going strong.

Happy sky watching on special moments like these & happy readings!
